Blacksburg High School Dedicates "David Crist Field"
Fundraising for Artificial Turf Field Continues - Please Make Your Pledge or Donation Today


On October 3, 2009 Blacksburg High School celebrated the naming of the new field at Bill Brown Stadium in honor of Coach David Crist. Coach Crist has coached and taught at BHS for 35 years. Following the pre game ceremony, the Bruins took on Lord Botetourt Cavaliers, winning 35 ­ 6. The victorious Bruins are pictured with Coach Crist, Momma C and three of their grandchildren. See the "Photos" page for additional pictures.

Fundraising continues and our goal is to complete the fundraising in 2009 and install the new turf in the summer of 2010.

A summary of the project is listed below:
  1. Donations and Pledges stand at $1,027,000 from over 250 businesses and individuals
  2. Thanks to the leadership and efforts of Scott Stosser and SAS Builders the new locker room, built with funds raised by the Booster Club is complete. Over 20 local contractors and companies contributed labor and materials to complete the locker room.
  3. Duncan Ford Mazda Lincoln Mercury is the sponsor for the Home Locker Room
  4. National Bank is the sponsor for the Visitors Locker Room
  5. Clinton’s Transfer and Storage is a Field Turf Sponsor

New BHS Stadium Opens For Soccer
Fundraising for Artificial Turf Field Continues- Need additional $371K

On April 28 the BHS Girls soccer team opened their new stadium for soccer with a victory over Christiansburg 4-1. Blacksburg’ first goal was scored in the 30th minute by Rebecca Cornelius with the assist by Adrian Newcomb. Blacksburg took the lead for good as Megan Kauffman scored the eventual game winning goal (36th) with the assist from Gracie Sims. In the second half, Blacksburg never looked back as they found the net two more times (Cornelius - 47th and Cornelius - 53rd). The Boy’s team followed with a win over district rival Pulaski County on May 1.

The new field house was used several times during weather delays as well as by the home and visiting teams before and after games. Shelly Blumenthal remarked, “the guys loved it.” He also commented on its usefulness in preparation before games and as place to meet privately after the games.

New BHS Stadium Opens
Fundraising for Stadium Enhancement Continues- Please Donate Today
On Friday, October 3, the new Bill Brown stadium at Blacksburg High School opened to a capacity crowd. The football team gave the crowd their money’s worth as they won the game 28-25 with a touchdown in the game’s final minutes.

On Friday, October 24, the new Bill Brown stadium was dedicated in a pre-game ceremony. Elected officials, School Board members, School Administrators, Booster Club representatives, and donors and other community leaders were on hand for the ribbon cutting ceremony.



On November 4 the School Board approved naming of the field in honor of Dave Crist and naming of the new locker room in memory of Paul Bowyer.

Status Summary:
  • Donations and Pledges stand at $1,000,000 from over 250 businesses and individuals
  • Thanks to the leadership and efforts of Scott Stosser and SAS Builders the new locker room, built with funds raised by the Booster Club is complete and was used at the opening game. Over 20 local contractors and companies contributed labor and materials to complete the locker room.
  • Duncan Ford Mazda Lincoln Mercury is the sponsor for the Home Locker Room

  • A committee to select the artificial turf vendor has been formed. Once adequate pledges are obtained, the Booster Club will obtain approval from the School Board to install the artificial field turf.

Blacksburg High School will conduct a dedication ceremony for the NEW Bill Brown Stadium on Friday, October 24th. The ceremony will be held at approximately 7:15 p.m. prior to the Homecoming game against the Pulaski County Cougars, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Representatives from Blacksburg Town Council, Montgomery County Board of Supervisors, Montgomery County School, Blacksburg High School and the BHS Booster Club will be present. Also, members of Coach Bill Brown’s family will be on hand to present the game ball to Coach Dave Crist.

October 10 2008 Update
On Friday, October 3, the new Bill Brown stadium at Blacksburg High School opened to a capacity crowd. The football team gave the crowd their money’s worth as they won the game 28-25 with a touchdown in the game’s final minutes. Congratulations Coach Crist and all the Bruins. Thanks to the leadership and efforts of Scott Stosser and SAS Builders the new locker room, built with funds raised by the Booster Club from many of you, was open and used by both teams. Over 20 local contractors and companies contributed labor and materials to complete the locker room. THANK YOU!!

The new locker room is part of a $1.2 million capital campaign to add two significant enhancements at the new Bill Brown Stadium being built by Montgomery County Schools. In addition to the locker room, the BHS Booster Club plans to also add artificial field turf at a future date. Please check out the "Photos" page for more pictures.

The new stadium’s Grand Opening will be held October 24, 2008 when the Bruins host the Pulaski County Cougars. We hope that you can join us and see the new facility and cheer on the team.

Over 250 people have pledged over $960,000 in cash or in kind contributions for the project. We are getting closer every month to our goal and to making our “field of dreams” a reality.

We need your help as we continue to raise money for the artificial field turf.

The artificial turf committee with representatives from the Booster Club, the school, the town, the county and the NRUSA has met with 4 vendors about providing the turf. Our goal is to install the artificial turf during the summer of 2009 in time for the fall 2009 Football season. We need your support and pledge to achieve this goal.

Also, back by popular demand, we are having a fall Brick Sale. Check out the link to learn more about buying a brick to recognize your family, your student, your business, or sports team. And, at the same time helping build our field of dreams.

September 30 2008 Update
Construction on the 5,000 square foot locker room being built at the new Bill Brown stadium is COMPLETE!! Special and many thanks are due to Scott Stosser and SAS Builders for leading the effort to build the locker room. The picture below was taken on September 20. Over 20 local contractors and companies contributed labor and materials to complete the locker room. THANK YOU!!
